CARTER CAVES STATE RESORT PARK — Kentucky Career Center TENCO held an area-wide partner training at Carter Caves State Resort Park on Oct. 25. This annual event provides partner agencies the opportunity to receive up-to-date training in order to serve customers in the best way possible.

Syl Florez, State EEO and ADA Coordinator with the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet Office of Diversity, Equality, and Training provided Equal Opportunity training titled “Embracing Diversity.” Mr. Florez’s presentation was an important reminder for staff to be sensitive to diverse customers while providing them with gold standard services expected at each career center.

In the afternoon, Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet Deputy Secretary Beth Brinly led a discussion on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access. Through this activity we discussed the importance of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) for workforce development systems, highlighted innovative DEIA strategies from other local workforce boards and partners, and explored where TENCO is on our DEIA journey, challenges encountered and support needed.

Agencies participating in the training included the Career Development Office, Gateway ADD, Buffalo Trace ADD, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, MSU Today’s Youth, UK KD, Adult Education, Department of Corrections, Senior Employment Program (Big Sandy CAP, Northern KY CAP, Southwest CAP), Sullivan University, Ashland Community and Technical College, and Maysville Community and Technical College.
