Recently, the TENCO Workforce Development Board celebrated National Apprenticeship Week by highlighting a local youth apprenticeship program within our region.

With locations in Maysville and Butler, Carmeuse is a global manufacturer of lime and limestone. For over 160 years, this privately-owned Belgian company has evolved from a calcium-based mineral provider into a company continuing to add integrated services. Carmeuse is one of the leading suppliers of lime, limestone, and other mineral products, equipment, and engineering solutions in the Americas region.

In 2022, Carmeuse partnered with the local school system to offer a youth apprentice program for students wanting to pursue an electrical or mechanical career path.  Since piloting this program, opportunities are now available at both Kentucky operations, as well as hosting a company sponsored apprenticeship program.

With a mixture of class-based learning and on-the-job training, students can learn and develop their skills in their desired occupation while still in high school.

Carmeuse is excited to be able to offer these opportunities to students in our region and watch them flourish in their career paths.  With their success of the youth apprenticeship program in the Kentucky operations, Carmeuse hopes to have similar programs company-wide.
