FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. — The Kentucky Welding Institute hosted its first Metal Works Expo Sept. 1 at its campus in Flemingsburg.
Established in 2015, KWI has trained highly skilled welders and placed them into the workforce with many choosing to travel the nation as pipewelders.
The American Welding Society brought their traveling exhibit “Experience Virtual Welding” to promote careers in the welding industry. Several unions and potential employers were on hand to answer questions about welding opportunities in the region. Skills USA, Commonwealth Educational Opportunity Center and the TENCO WIOA program were available to distribute information.
Over 600 attended the event. KWI hopes to make the event an annual one, routinely the Friday before Labor Day.
